FoodSilo — Privacy Policy

            The short version: FoodSilo stores your health and nutrition data securely in your own private account. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than running the app for you.
        

1. Who We Are

FoodSilo is a personal nutrition and pantry tracking application. When we say "FoodSilo," "we," "us," or "our" in this policy, we mean the FoodSilo app and its developer.

2. What Information We Collect

FoodSilo collects only the information you choose to provide when using the app:

Account information — your email address and password (or Google account identity if you sign in with Google), used solely to identify your account and secure your data.
Nutrition and food data — the food items, meals, calorie and protein values, and pantry inventory you log in the app.
Health data — body weight entries you log manually or that are imported from Google Fit, Samsung Health, or Health Connect at your direction.
Calorie burn data — calorie expenditure data pulled from Samsung Health (via native SDK) or Google Fit (via OAuth).
App preferences — your settings such as nutrition goals, daily reset times, schedule profiles, streak data, and health sync preferences.

We do not collect location data, contact lists, camera images, or any information beyond what is listed above.

3. How We Use Your Information

All information you provide is used exclusively to operate the FoodSilo app for you:

To save and sync your pantry, food logs, and settings across sessions and devices.
To display your nutrition history, weight journey, and calorie burn data within the app.
To calculate progress toward your personal health goals.

We do not use your data to train machine learning models, serve advertisements, or for any commercial purpose beyond providing the app.

4. How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore), a cloud database service provided by Google. Your data is stored under your unique user ID and is protected by Firebase Security Rules that ensure only you can read or write your own data — no other user or third party can access it.

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections at all times.

5. Third-Party Services

FoodSilo uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

Google Firebase — account authentication and secure data storage. Firebase Privacy Policy
Google Fit API — optional, only if you choose to connect Google Fit for weight or calorie sync. Google Privacy Policy
USDA FoodData Central API — used for food search suggestions. Queries are sent to the USDA's public API but no personal data is included in these requests.
Open Food Facts API — used for barcode scanning and food search lookups. No personal data is sent.
Anthropic API — used to power the AI Lookup feature. When you use AI Lookup, the food description you type is sent to Anthropic's servers to generate a nutrition estimate. FoodSilo does not integrate with any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or data brokers.

6. Google Fit Data

If you choose to connect Google Fit, FoodSilo requests read-only access to your body weight and calorie expenditure data. This data is:

Fetched directly from Google's servers to your device when you open the app.
Stored only in your private FoodSilo account.
Never shared with any third party.
Only accessed when you have actively connected Google Fit in Settings.

You can disconnect Google Fit at any time in Settings, which will stop all future data access.

7. Samsung Health Data

If you choose to connect Samsung Health, FoodSilo requests read-only access to your steps, calorie burn, and body weight data via the Samsung Health Data SDK. This data is only accessed when you have actively connected Samsung Health in Settings and is never sold or shared with third parties. You can disconnect Samsung Health at any time in Settings.

8. Health Connect Data

If you choose to connect Health Connect, FoodSilo requests read-only access to your body weight data via the Android Health Connect API. This data is only accessed when you have actively connected Health Connect in Settings and is never sold or shared with third parties. You can disconnect Health Connect at any time in Settings, or revoke access directly in the Health Connect app.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data remains in your account for as long as you use FoodSilo. You can manually delete individual entries within the app at any time. To permanently delete your account and all associated data, use the Delete My Account option in Settings, or contact us at support@foodsilo.food and we will permanently delete your data within 30 days.

10. Children's Privacy

FoodSilo is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
